Lake Anna State Park
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:33:30 PM »
Well here goes, First we chose 3 sites for all of us down at the last few sites by the Bath House. Wasn't too bad in the am and late evening, But mid-day there was no shade. In fact most of the sites there are without shade. Fri and Sat was pretty nice since the temps were cooler. But Sun and packing up today was hotter that u know what!!

Sites are gravel and fairly level, Same pea gravel at most state parks, but didn't seem to be as deep as it is at Chippokes.

We did the gold panning thing and went geo-caching. The guides seemed to not have a clue about anything. They were nice people but not well prepared for anything. Didn't do the gold mine tour, Didn't bother with trying to squeeze into the lake to go swimming. There were a lot of people there both Sat and Sun, I don't think you could have shoe horned anyone else into it!! A lot less boats than I thought there would be a lot more. Can't speak for the canoe/kayak trip but it was dooable from what I heard. All in all it was a great weekend.

:B7: Let me tell you we had a blast this weekend.Yes the lake was crowed but who cares we went gold mining, geo-caching ,eatting great food and spending time with terrific friends. The Marlbanks helped out with shade even though it is a VA Tech tent canopy but hey who is complaining lollol.. I hope everyone here had as much fun as we did.

Agree with Reed's review.  Had a wonderful time, weather great.  Sites spacious but no shade middle of the day, except for our AWESOME VA Tech canopy!!!  Guide for activities was very nice, but soft spoken and not very knowledgeable about the history and area.  Knew her animals though.  Canoeing/kayaking on the lake was great, never felt threatened by boaters, of course we did go away from the main part of the lake, and we put in away from the main beach.  My kids even went out in kayaks and had no trouble.  The 2 hour panning for gold and goldmine tour was dissapointing to me but my kids loved it.  Geocaching would have been better if the guide knew more and we had more time.  However, for geocachers, every state park does have geocache sites available.  Looking forward to coming back in the fall if plans allow it.

We really enjoyed the Lake Anna area! Thanks for the hospitality of the Friday evening dinner! soooooo good.

We enjoyed getting to know Marlbank and family! As well as more time with Reed and Carol. We were split with some family visiting while we were there but were able to take on:
Kayaking - LOVED it!
Swimming - crowded but still felt good as Sunday heated up
Hiking - plenty of places to walk
Sitting around playing games with the family
FOOD
Touring the Ferry Farm

Happy belated Fourth blessings.
